Is Microsoft's New Search Engine Bing a Threat to Google?
Microsoft has released a new web search engine called Bing. With a short and catchy name Microsoft hopes that it becomes a verb like Google. They are spending 100 million dollars in marketing and calling it a decision engine, rather than a search engine.
The latest June, 2009 data from the web analytic company Compete indicates that Bing is now 13th most visited web site in the world. Bing is now more popular than Twitter, the fastest growing social media and micro-blogging site.
Is Bing better than Google? Can it challenge Google's domination in the web search technology? The verdict is still out there. Google commands more than 70% search engine market. And Microsoft was unsuccessful in challenging Google in the search engine market in the past when they launched Live search in 2006.
However, this time Microsoft believes that it has a better technology. The technology behind Microsoft's Bing is acquired in 2008 when they purchased Powerset. Powerset is based on semantic search technology as opposed to keyword search technology used by other search engines, including Google.
The Semantic search technology is based on natural language processing capability of computers. It provides targeted answers to search queries.
For example, when you type the question "Who is the president of the USA?" in a keyword based search engine, it will break down the question into important keywords, like "president" and "USA". It will then try to find authoritative web pages that have those keywords.
A semantic search engine attempts to provide an answer to the user's query by understanding the users' intent of the query. To the query "Who is the president of the USA?", Google returns whitehouse.gov as the top search result, whereas Bing provides a direct answer, "Barack Obama is the 44th president of the United States ..."
That being said, users often use two or more keywords and fragmented sentences while performing web searches using a search engine like Google. And most of the time, there is no one absolute answer to every search query.
For example to a query like "what is the best digital camera?", there is no absolute answer. A semantic search engine falls back to keyword search technology in these scenarios. Google is also using semantic technology behind the scene to lots of users' queries.
There is another aspect of Bing that is more attractive to software and web application developers. Bing offers a superior search API (application programming interface) as compared to Google's search API.
The terms of usage of the Bing API is more flexible. You can mix and rearrange the search results and there is no daily quota on the number queries to the API you can send.
Bing is still not a challenge to Google's domination in the web search market. However, Bing will definitely give some challenges to Google and they will respond to those challenges by improving their search engine. As usual, users will definitely benefit in the long run from this intense competition to dominate the web search market.

Smart marketers have been using articles as a core part of their marketing mix for years. It's one of those high-payoff activities that is just plain crazy not to do. Submitting articles to article directories gives the marketer instant credibility, instant traffic from the article sites and instant links that boost search engine rankings.
The long-term residual benefits from improved search engine rankings and the articles being used by publishers on other sites. Every article written and submitted produces immediate results as well as additional profits for years to come.
The formula is a simple one - the more articles you write, and the more directories you submit them to, the more money you make.

While some may argue that English is the language of the Internet, your international visitors will deeply appreciate the opportunity to view your site in their native language. Unfortunately, web page translation is costly, time consuming and not always feasible, especially for startups.
But that’s no longer a problem, with the Incansoft Translator, a wrapper script for Google AJAX Language API that automatically translates and caches those pages for your visitors in different languages!
Just imagine – multiply the total number of web pages you presently have by 10, 20, 30 or more and you’ve just dramatically increased the size of your web site and your presence in the search engines! Not to mention the level of “Stickiness” derived from those visitors who come back again and again just to be able to view content in their own language!

Are you building dozens or hundreds of small, targeted niche sites? Are you spending a lot of time generating traffic for them? How about updating and maintaining them? Writing and outsourcing content over and over hoping to move up a rank or two in SERPS. Takes a lot of time and effort, doesn't it?
And what about all those domain names you're registering? Isn't that a lot of fun, juggling them, renewing them and finding out you lost a few of them? And let's not even get starting on all the hosting accounts and those issues!
Isn't About time to STOP the INSANITY
and START building Authority Sites?
We want you to think about this - why is it that sites like About and Wikipedia consistently rank so well regardless of what is being searched on? They don't target any specific niche topics and they don't pay for traffic. On a smaller scale, why are forums and blogs literally STALKED by search engine bots within hours of them going live? The answer is a simple one... |

For over a century, issuing Press Releases related to business news and events has been a mainstay off offline advertising. Unlike taking an ad out in a newspaper or magazine, a Press Release is a Powerful and FREE form of advertising your business, while keeping it in the public view.
Surprisingly, very few online businesses take advantage of the traffic benefits of issuing Press Releases, preferring instead to follow the mundane routines of article marketing, which is far more complex and time consuming. Consider this - with article marketing, the business owner has to focus on indirectly driving traffic back to their web site by writing about a variety of topics, all without being able to clearly promote their business activities.
Press Releases on the other hand, allow the business owner to write short, compelling pieces directly about their business activities and present them to the media. Online, there are dozens of FREE web services dedicated to the collection and distribution of Press Releases, which are in turn picked up and displayed on other, related web sites via RSS or News Feeds. Depending upon the news worthiness of the Press Release, it's not uncommon to find them picked up by the media as filler material, which adds instant credibility to your online business!
